"Life is finding a cliff worth jumping off of." - Anthony Bourdain
Let's be honest...if you are on this site, you most likely already know at least one of us and our story. But if you just stumbled across this page somehow, here's the Cliff's Notes version on who we are and what our vision is:
Several years back, two next door neighbors started hanging out in the garage after our families/significant others were tired of our shit. Our love of a few beers and bullshitting quickly escalated into a pour of whiskey and liar's dice, and eventually pouring from several bottles and throwing darts. What quickly became apparent, is that my passion for bourbon found an eager student in Jason. Each of us had our own journeys with spirits and cocktails, but while I had already gone down the rabbit hole of American whiskies, Jason had mostly stuck to several staples he was familiar with. There is certainly something to be said about keeping things simple, but Jason quickly began to discover the magical world of whiskey, and how intertwined it was with American history.
Of course we like to drink it...but we began to dive deeper into the spirits themselves. What were the stories? The stories behind the distilleries? The distillers themselves? Drinking whiskey became romantic. We started discovering and pairing music to the whiskeys were were drinking. We started understanding the mash bills we enjoyed, and even began blending our own blends to our own tastes. One night, inspired by many pours, we began to reflect on how many people we knew that would love to do what we were doing every week. We talked about how intimidating the world of whiskey can be to someone who may love drinking it, but not have the same network to learn and experience it on a grander scale. Jason wanted to take someone on the same journey he had just been on for the last couple of years, and that sounded amazing to both of us.
But there was another aspect of what is happening in the whiskey world that we wanted to address, and that is the increasingly absurd availability and price-gouging culture that now dominates the whiskey landscape. Part of our vision for the Preservation Society, is not to just preserve the history behind this iconic American spirit, but also access to it. Our goal of sending unique and rare samples to members to drink and enjoy together is just the start. Fox & Pheasant members will also enjoy our brokerage services and unique offerings through the year that, quite frankly, is becoming almost impossible for an individual to acquire at a reasonable price.
Ultimately, we don't know where this road takes us. A private Club room with member decanters and lockers? Sure. Private barrel selections for the Club? Of course. Swag? Without a doubt. That all seems obvious to us. But joining now means you help drive this Society into directions we may not even be thinking of. This isn't a business. It is a collection of like minded individuals that want to share in some common experiences more easily achieved together.
We are a secret handshake society, but with whiskey. And all are welcome.
The American Whiskey Society is committed to providing members with an appreciation of the history of whiskey in America while creating access to it in a market that is making iconic spirits more and more difficult to access.
The American Whiskey Preservation Society will be your introduction to premium American whiskeys, their history, and a bevy of experiences and resources to broaden your knowledge and enjoyment of them.
All initial Society Members will be considered Beta Members, and will play an active role in providing feedback and complete surveys along the way, helping define member benefits and club offerings for the future. All members will be assigned member numbers that will prioritize limited edition offerings, up to and including, access to the Fox & Pheasant Club.
Our inner-most membership level grants access to every benefit a member can obtain, including brokerage for rare whiskies, limited edition Fox & Pheasant merchandise, a custom Infinity Bottle decanter, and of course your monthly premium pours. Our dream is for this to expand to a physical Club space, which will include member access privileges, whiskey storage lockers and decanter service.
*Membership in the Fox & Pheasant is limited. Once memberships are full, we will create a waitlist with priority going to current Society Members. If you know you are wanting to get on board now, you can go ahead and pay your initial dues which (upon approval) will secure your founder's Certificate, Membership ID#, and Club Decanter. Premium pour will commence immediately!
Feel free to hit us up with any questions or reasonable recommendations! To sign up for either The Society or the Fox & Pheasant Club, visit our Featured Products section.
Whiskey does not play by the rules of traditional society, and therefore refuses to be restricted to set hours. If we're up, we're open.
Virtual tastings will be scheduled once per month, and special events will be offered to Society and/or Fox & Pheasant Club members as they are planned.
